Position : Library Operations Officer
Contract Period: From 3 January 2022 to 31 December 2022
Salary ranges from $1,500 - $1,700 per month depending on qualification and relevant working experience.
Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:
•Mondays to Fridays: 8:00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
Service are not required on school holidays, Saturdays, Sundays, gazetted public holidays and other days of school closure, unless requested by the Authority, and agreed between the Parties.
The Services required are set out as follows:
•Manage and ensure that the day-to-day operations and administration of the School Library are efficient and that the system, resources and equipment are well maintained.
•Implement library policies and procedures for library operations and resources such as loans, collection development (in consultation with the Library Coordinator), stock-taking, condemnation and preservation.
•Operate the Spydus Library Management System (LMS) and conduct duties such as charging, renewing, returning, circulation and performing OPAC web enquiries.
•Update and maintain accuracy of data in the LMS, e.g. borrower information and status, location of library collection, etc.
•Prepare monthly reference slip for overdue / lost books to be issued to students.
•Catalogue and accession of new library materials into the LMS.
•Shelve library collections according to the Dewey Decimal Classification.
•Select, index, archive and update newspaper articles suitable for resource files based on school needs.
Reference & Advisory
•Provide loan, advisory and information services to students and teachers viz. locating sources of information from print and non-print resources.
•Assist teachers in conducting school-based library programmes and activities during specific events such as International Friendship Day, National Day, Racial Harmony Day, etc.
•Provide at least eight (8) thematic displays per year.
•Integrate library programmes into the curriculum to promote library and information skills, instruction and reading:
oConduct library orientation and refresher programmes for students and teachers.
oConduct basic user education programmes and information literacy for students and teachers to teach them how to search for and evaluate information.
oPromote usage of the school MRL by organising reading-related activities and programmes such as book sharing sessions, Sudoko, Word Puzzle, etc.
•Define collection and other functional areas with clear layout, directional and informative signage and guides.
The Personnel shall minimally have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
•Minimum GCE ‘N’/’O’ level qualifications or its equivalent.
•Minimum one year of administrative experience and be able to operate the SPYDUS Library Automation System.
•Good organizational, administrative, communication and customer service skills.
•Good interpersonal skills with ability to build good rapport with all levels of staff and students.
•Proactive team player who is able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
•Previous experience in a library work environment would be an added advantage.
