Overview The Phlebotomist is to provide assistance to the Medical Staff by providing venepuncture service for the collection of blood specimens for Laboratory investigations for the patients in Alexandra Hospital. Primary Responsibilities: • Performs venepuncture for the collection of blood specimens for dispatch to the laboratory in accordance with the standards set. • Sorts and records all blood specimens collected, and ensure that they are correctly labelled, and dispatched to the Laboratory in the correct mode. • Practice Universal Precautions throughout the procedure. • Gathers feedback from Clinicians, Staff and Patients on matters concerning workflow improvement. • Provide teaching and training for students from the Phlebotomy Course conducted by Laboratory. Secondary Responsibilities: • Assist in improving, identifying and implement changes in the work processes of the Phlebotomy Service. • Implement Service Audit and Quality Assurance programmes. • Continuously upgrading of skills and techniques. • Orientate and guide new Phlebotomy Staff. • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor and Manager.
